What Nintendo’s Effort to Make Dragon Quest Succeed Means
Following the announcement that Dragon Quest X would be headed to the Wii, Nintendo Co. Ltd. President Satoru Iwata made the following statement, as quote by 1up:
“With the release of Dragon Quest IX, there are two things I’d like to make reality. The first is to build a thriving Japanese game market together with Dragon Quest that rivals the West’s. The second is to form a strong tag team to promote Dragon Quest overseas. At Nintendo, we were able to popularize the Brain Age series overseas, which was said to be unmarketable. I want to increase the number of people worldwide that understand the appeal of Dragon Quest, which represents all Japanese gaming culture…even if that only turns out to be a single person. I’m looking forward to working together with Mr. Horii and Square Enix.”
To that end, Chris Kohler of Wired Game|Life has taken an exhaustive look at the significance this holds.
Media: MadWorld Wishes You a Happy, Uncensored Holiday Season
MadWorld Holidays, second verse, same as the first.
But without all that bothersome yellow tape this time. Which is funny, because I thought Europe, where this trailer is from/for, was more uptight about that stuff in their games.
EA Says Wii Graphics are “Not Broadcast Quality” When Making Commercials
Oh, EA, what trouble will you land in next?
In a recent UK ad for Tiger Woods PGA Tour 09, Tiger Woods is depicted swinging a Wii remote with a Tiger Woods on a television screen following his movements. And Virtual Tiger looks good… but perhaps a little too good, say angry consumers who complained to Britain’s Advertising Standards Authority.
E3 2009 May Not Bring News of Next Zelda and Mario Titles
The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess was originally announced at E3 in 2004, with a release planned for 2005, but it instead wound up going on to become a launch title for the Wii at the end of 2006.
Since that time, we have only just heard recently, as of E3 2008, that a new Zelda game is underway. And it leaves but one train of thought on every Zelda fan’s mind right now: When do we hear an official announcement? When do we find out what we’re getting next?
Nintendo Settles with Nyko Over Wireless Nunchuk
Well, this is certainly a switch…
Normally, where lawsuits are concerned, Nintendo keeps things pretty quiet. Yet earlier today, they issued a press release regarding the outcome of their lawsuit with Nyko over the latter’s wireless Nunchuk controller.
Of course, it seems that more often, Nintendo is on the receiving end of a lawsuit. Perhaps the fact they are the ones who initiated this one is the difference maker?
Media: Swords & Soldiers for WiiWare
Well, this actually looks pretty damn cool. Sure, it stinks of a less funny version of Castle Crashers, but the game looks enticing. Like a fancy chocolate bar of beat em’ up goodness. Am I stretching there?
Oh! So it’s a Sidescrolling Strategy game, eh? And a saucy one at that. Swords & Soldiers is slated for an early ‘09 release. Honestly, during a slim season this one may be worthy of a download. But the real question is; will I put Fable II down for this?
Happy Birthday, Blue Bomber! Mega Man Turns 21
Whew, almost missed getting this posted. Luckily, by my clock, there’s still 27 minutes left of December 17th for me to say “Happy Birthday” to Mega Man in a time-fitting fashion.
I could go on and on about Mega Man’s 21 years (that’s right, as of today, he is legally able to drink E-tanks with alcohol in them), but perhaps another time.
For now, here’s a video that seems fitting, as the original Blue Bomber takes on one of the series’ most iconic enemies…
CID The Dummy - New ScreenShot - Set 1
A chance to crash and smash with real purpose, to battle the most fierce robot villain, a chance to rescue the most beautiful girl in the world… a chance to do something amazing!
Take-Two: “2 Million More Wiis Sold? Now Our Best Content is Appropriate”
I’m having a difficult time understanding Take-Two. They seem just a bit wishy-washy over the prospect of whether or not mature games are suited to the Wii.
See if you can figure this out: It’s okay for titles such as Bully and Manhunt 2 to be on the Wii, but not Grand Theft Auto. If anything, I would think that GTA is a better fit than Manhunt. But then, given how generally unimpressed people have been with either Manhunt game, I suppose it’s easy to say that anything is a better fit than Manhunt.
And then they turn around and put Grand Theft Auto on the DS.
Call of Duty: World at War Not Doing So Hot on Wii
In something of an ironic twist, as Take-Two begins to see more potential in the Wii, it’s possible that Treyarch is beginning to see less.
The tale of the tape comes from GameDaily, who looks at the overall sales of Call of Duty: World at War.
