For those who have been eagerly anticipating MadWorld, and The Conduit probably should have made your way up to New York over the weekend, for Comic Con. SEGA, apparently was demoing both games, proved by both of these bootlegged gameplay videos.

After viewing both vids, I’m more excited about MadWorld and The Conduit than I already was before.

High Voltage Hot Rod Show Review

February 17th, 2009 Comments Off Posted in Wii News

Pros - A kinetic, and intense arcade driving game. The stunt/boost system provides a unique gameplay experience. A fun multiplayer experience.

Cons - Controls could have been made a bit tighter. Bland visuals. Online multiplayer could have really added to the experience. Spotty driver AI. Championship mode could have been put together better.

Its been awhile since I’ve done a review for WiiBlog. Consider it fate that a week or so ago, High Voltage was kind enough to provide me with a copy of High Voltage Hot Rod Show to review for WiiBlog. I’ve put in enough time with the game to offer my thoughts, and share what I did, and didn’t like about High Voltage Hot Rod Show. So, here we go.

LIT First Impressions (Spooky, and Challenging)

February 17th, 2009 Comments Off Posted in Wii News

LIT, is one game that I’ve been looking forward to since I first heard about it. Last night I took a chance, and decided to download the game to see what it was all about. I only got to play about 20-30 minutes of it, but I’m definitely glad I did.
lit
The idea of mixing horror, and puzzle elements is something traditionally reserved for pre-Resident Evil 4, and in the Silent Hill games. LIT differentiates itself from those games for many reasons I’ve noticed so far. First, LIT is a pure puzzler, atleast from what I’ve played so far. If you’re looking for any kind of high octane action you won’t find it here. LIT trades in gunfire, and explosions for atmosphere and mood. Which it has in spades.

The premise of LIT is very simple, you’re stuck in a high school that for the most part is pitch black. The problem with that, is that there are creatures residing in the blackness looking to pull you into their world. So, it’s up to you to figure out how to stay in the light. As you progress through the stages you’ll be forced to increase your critical thinking in order to make sure you don’t step into the black. Either by shooting a slingshot pellet through a window to give you a clear path to walk down. Or turning on a lamp that glows in circle.

Mario & Sonic Going To The Winter Olympics (Vancouver)

February 17th, 2009 Comments Off Posted in Wii News

For the millions around the world that enjoyed playing the olympic events, in the smash-hit Mario & Sonic: At The Olympics should be excited. It’s been officially announced that a sequel will be released. Is anyone really surprised?

It’s really interesting to see how the success of Mario & Sonic: At The Olympics was shaped during its reign. The game sold well everywhere around the world, but really found its love in the UK. The Wii & DS version of Mario & Sonic: At The Olympics sold 1.2 million copies going into June 2008. It was also #5 on the Top 10 video game sales list for 2008, in the UK. SEGA has estimated that the title has sold over 10 million copies worldwide.

All of this news of success has led to the ‘unofficial’ announcement of a Mario & Sonic Winter Olympics title. Dennis Kim, director licensing of SEGA did everything but come out and say “we’re making it” with this statement, “Last year, 2008, they had a very successful game using Mario and Sonic at the Beijing Games, as well as a multi-sport simulation type of game…That is what is being discussed and planned for Vancouver. We are feeling optimistic about sales because of the Beijing experience.”

MadWorld TV Trailer (Part 2)

February 17th, 2009 Comments Off Posted in Wii News

SEGA has done a good job with marketing MadWorld, and I was really impressed with the first MadWorld TV trailer. It was funny, and gave a good vibe for the upcoming game. The second (of four) trailers has been released. It’s not quite as funny, but still is worth a view.

House of the Dead: Overkill First Impressions

February 17th, 2009 Comments Off Posted in Wii News

I’m not sure why video games and zombies go hand and hand together. Is it the feeling of shooting something in the head to kill it that appeals to gamers? Or is it easier to code AI for the undead that attracts developers? Well, the monsters in House of the Dead: Overkill are apparently mutants, so this discussion of zombies doesn’t matter anyway.

I don’t think I’ve ever played a game that was more deserving of its ‘M’ rated status than House of the Dead: Overkill. During its intro, which has a scantily clad stripper working a pole, you’ll find that House of the Dead: Overkill tries to go over the top and succeeds on nearly every level. On a side note, kudos to Headstrong Games for making the intro credits play in front of a hot stripper. I think it’s the only time I’ve never skipped a credit screen if given the option.

If you’ve seen any of the HotD: Overkill trailers then you know that Headstrong was going after the 70’s B movie horror feel when creating the game. After playing through the first three stages, it’s safe to say they pulled it off well. Everything in the game oozes with campy, horror movie flare. The menus have that gritty, old movie reel look with some hilarious music playing in the background. During my look around all of the menus, I found the aim calibration a little off. I had to move my sensor bar around, and make sure my Wii Zapper was at the right level to get my aim right. Kind of a nuisance.

Top 5 Games To Play On Valentine’s Day

February 17th, 2009 Comments Off Posted in Wii News

I don’t think we have a more divisive holiday in a year more than Valentines Day. Or as some refer to it as ‘V-Day’. For those who have a significant other, Valentines Day can have a two-prong effect. Either it’s a momentous occasion with rose petal adorned bedrooms, and romantic filled evenings. For others it’s a stressful day with someone trying their best to please the other, and getting all worked up over it in the process. For those without a partner, we (yes we … :(  ) tend to just walk around with a huge middle finger up in the air.

If you’re looking to buck the Valentine’s Day trend, or if you have a girl/boy-friend that’s just uber cool why not give gaming a chance? There’s games out there that can bring two souls together, and become one. You just gotta know where to look.

There Will Be Brawl: Episode Two

February 17th, 2009 Comments Off Posted in Wii News

A few months ago, a relatively unknown fan based video was released, There Will Be Brawl. If you haven’t watched the first episode, click on the link above.

There Will Be Brawl, is a dark comedy based on the Super Smash Bros. universe. Unlike most fan based creations, this series has some high quality production values and is definitely worth watching.

Squirtle water beam to the face…FTW.
