Resident Evil not yet dead on Wii - Kawata
Despite the non-appearance of the now-finished Resident Evil 5 on Wii, waggle fans needn’t be too downhearted, claims Eurogamer.
A translated interview with Resi 5’s producer, Masachika Kawata, suggests he would like to work on a Resident Evil game for Wii, now he’s done with the new HD offering.

“Personally I would like to create something on Wii in the Resident Evil family. At the moment we don’t know and have just been working on RE5, so watch this space.”
Cause for optimism, certainly. Though let’s hope it’s more like Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition rather than Umbrella Chronicles. Decent though the latter is, I’d like a ‘proper’ Resi on Wii - and the console’s already oversubscribed for rail shooters, anyway.
Insane January sales for Wii (NPD)
I’m starting to sound like a broken record, but Nintendo once again dominated the US sales charts. For the month of January, Nintendo sold 679,000 Wiis and 511,000 DSes. Compare it to the opposition and it seems even more ridiculous. The next biggest seller was the Xbox 360 on 309,000, with the PS3 following on 203,000 with PSP and PS2 further back on 172,000 and 101,000 units respectively.

Comparisons with last year’s sales are even more striking - Wii was up 405,000 year-on-year (almost a 150% increase), with DS up 259,000 (just over 100%). The only other console to post improved figures on last January’s totals was the 360 (up 79,000). The rest all had noticeable losses.
On the software front, Wii Fit’s UK success was mirrored in the US, with Americans buying it in their droves, presumably to wobble off those excess Christmas and Thanksgiving pounds. At 777,000 sales, itsold more copies than the second and third place games put together, coincidentally two more Wii titles in Wii Play and Mario Kart Wii. Guitar Hero World Tour at 7, New Super Mario Bros at 8 and Mario Kart DS at 9 were the other Nintendo console representatives.
DS goes Platinum this May
Precisely two months after its North American debut, European gamers will be getting their Pokem on as the latest in the critter-catching RPG series hits DS.

Pokemon Platinum is a companion piece to Diamond and Pearl - only this offers much more than your average Poke-sequel. For starters, there are new online modes at the Wi-Fi plaza, while the Vs. Recorder allows you to record your most exciting battles and replay them to your heart’s content.
And then there’s the small matter of the Distortion World - I’ve experienced this in the Japanese version, and it really is one of the most exciting and unique Pokemon dungeons ever.
Wii game - Marble Saga Kororinpa Preview
I’ve heard of the Kororinpa games, but will have to tell you that I’ve never sat down and actually played one. That will all change, as Hudson was kind enough to send some preview materials, plus a demo of their latest game, Marble Saga Kororinpa.

After reading the synopsis of the plot, I must say I’m intrigued if a little scared. The game follows the adventures of Anthony the Ant as he sets out on his journey to find the ‘Golden Flower’. As the story unfolds, you gather items essential to progressing. There will be around 40 of these items, including shrinking machines, movable bridges, vacuum tubes, and cannon vaults.
If you’ve never played a game like Kororinpa it’s a puzzle game much in the same spirit as the Super Monkey Ball games. It’s played by tilting the game world as you navigate a marble through various stages. The stages’ difficulty increases, as more obstacles are thrown at you.
Rumor: Nintendo Upping R&D Spending for HD Wii in 2011
A new version of Nintendo Wii, complete with HD graphics and a better storage option than the current edition of the console, is currently being pitched to various game developers and publishers by Nintendo with the intention of being released sometime in 2011, according to a What They Play report.

Apparently set to hit the market “by 2011″ the new device is said to be the true “next generation” Nintendo console, and far more than a simple refresh of the current hardware. Unlike previous console transitions from Nintendo, the new system will be presented as a true successor to the Wii, and is being dubbed by those that have seen the presentation as “Wii HD.” There is no indication if this will be its eventual name, but the nature of the transition has been characterized as similar to “the shift from Game Boy to Game Boy Advance,” where familiar, key elements were left intact while the core hardware was made more powerful. It is expected by all those that we have spoken to on the subject that the new device will retain the Wii name in part. — What They Play
Mario Meets Marriott
Looks like Nintendo’s favorite plumber and his friends are going to be crashing in style, as Nintendo has partnered up with Marriott and Renaissance hotels to bring the Wii to travellers in six locations.
The Wii™ experience is just beginning for Marriott and Renaissance guests, who can now choose from 20 games, including the popular Mario Kart™ Wii, Super Mario Galaxy™, and Wii Sports™ as well as the revolutionary fitness game, Wii Fit™. Nintendo Registers Odd New Device: A Pedometer?
As is the norm with Nintendo of late, they’ve registered a strange new device, as seen above. To the optimistic, this is what a Nintendo Wii storage solution looks like.
But according to the chatter (the other link isn’t working for me) on NeoGAF, where it was discovered, it’s apparently a pedometer of some kind, it would likely work with Wii Fit in some capacity… or it’s Nintendo’s next step after Friend Codes to help keep children safe from 4chan and the like.
More likely, it would keep track of the number of steps you take for Wii Fit, so that Nintendo will know every breath you take, every move you make, and with every step you take… they’ll be watching you.

Rhythm Tengoku fan spinoff brings punchy musical fun to PC owners
While we all still wait patiently for Rhythm Heaven to arrive on US and European shores, Japanese fans are already hard at work on their own spinoffs - this video shows Karateka Mania, which sets the rhythmic pugilism of one of Tengoku’s most celebrated minigames to a J-Pop soundtrack. It looks a little more complicated than Tengoku’s fairly straight rhythms, though perhaps not quite as exacting.
Disaster: Day of Crisis Credits Revealed
It’s kind of funny: Disaster: Day of Crisis isn’t even announced for a US release yet, and some people have already beaten it in Japan. And to that end, as Duckroll of the NeoGAF forums discovered, the credits are now online:
Luckily, for those who may not want (or are unable) to watch, here are the “important parts”:
Director/Story: Keiichi Ono
Lead Design: Koh Kojima
Wii pedometer on its way
Engadget is getting itself in a froth about a piece of equipment which has been found on a European trademark registry site, and is putting two and two together and coming up with five, claiming that it’s a Nintendo pedometer. With little supplemental information about the peripheral it’s hard to say that it’s definitely what it looks (a bit) like, though there’s no noticeable Wii branding, and I’m not convinced it’s necessarily the next evolutionary step for Wii Fit - or indeed related to a brand new game. Besides, we’ve already got Wii Jog on the way.
